De Wekker
The cooperative association ‘De Wekker’, founded in 1899, began at 31 Zeestraat in The Hague. In 1901, De Wekker became a production cooperative in which all employees received a fixed wage, a share of the profits, and the prospect of a pension. De Wekker produced and sold applied arts, small furniture, and especially (reform) clothing. At its peak, around sixty women worked there. The cooperative went bankrupt around 1924. — J. Hooikammer (10-2026)
